The project Intelligent personalization and flexibility systems to improve the quality of Virtual Higher Education in Latin America (YACHAY) aims to create and test an intelligent system of profiles and portable portfolios for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), which facilitate the implementation of the 21st century educational requirements of flexibility, personalization, credentialing, and inclusion; in synergy with the business network.

Among the actions to be carried out, the creation of guidelines and virtual courses aimed at teaching staff on content generation are added to facilitate the definition of customizable learning routes; the promotion of the flexibility of university curricula, facilitating the empowerment of students in the design of careers adapted to their needs and preferences in synergy with the business sector, through a system of recommending learning routes, which implies greater democratization of Education; and the establishment of a unified credentialing system, managed through blockchain technology, promoting the interoperability of both university and professional or company credentials.

The consortium formed to carry out the YachaY project is made up of two European universities, the National University of Distance Education (UNED) and the New University of Lisbon (UNL); and six from Latin America, two from Mexico, the University of Guadalajara (UDG) and the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), two from Peru, the Continental University (UC) and the National University of Central Peru (UNCP), and two from Argentinas, the National University of San Martín (UNSAM) and the National University of Mar del Plata (UNMDP).

This formation of partners has an innovative value since it implies collaboration between teaching professionals, researchers and managers of various disciplinary fields with research and projects developed; unites the efforts of universities that, despite their similarities, have diversity of management systems, students and culture in their university community, so that the results that come from the project have a better probability of having an ecological validity applicable to other Latin American contexts . Likewise, cooperating entities from the business sector, civil society and public administration participate: the Sidar Foundation – Universal Access, the National Industry Society – Junín Regional Headquarters, Kipu Llaxta Psycho-Inclusive Association, Yachapanacuy TEC, Educational services, promotion and support rural – SEPAR, Fundación Creática Free and the Common Space for Higher Education Online for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECESELI); but the project invites the participation of all those who want to join to achieve the objective of improving the quality of university education by offering a truly inclusive and customizable education.

The project’s goal is to create and test an intelligent system of profiles and portable portfolios for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), which facilitate the implementation of the 21st century educational requirements of flexibility, personalization, credentialing, and inclusion. ; in synergy with the business network.

  • Establecer un sistema de portafolios electrónico unificado para Latinoamérica.
  • Desarrollar un sistema de perfil portable para facilitar la personalización del aprendizaje.
  • Crear pautas y cursos virtuales dirigidos al personal docente sobre la creación de rutas y contenidos personalizables, proporcionando también un sistema de seguimiento, para incrementar el nivel de calidad de la enseñanza universitaria.
  • Impulsar la flexibilización de la curricula universitaria, facilitando el empoderamiento de los alumnos en el diseño de carreras adaptadas a 
    sus necesidades y preferencias en sinergia con el sector empresarial mediante un sistema de recomendación de rutas de aprendizaje, lo que implica una mayor democratización de la educación.
  • Establecer un sistema de credencialización unificado, gestionado mediante la tecnología blockchain, propiciando la interoperabilidad universidad / empresa.
  • Modernización y agilización de los sistemas de gestión universitaria, teniendo en cuenta la urgente necesidad equidad, accesibilidad y democratización e integrando herramientas de inteligencia artificial tanto para facilitar el acceso e interacción de los alumnos como el seguimiento de progreso de los mismos

The project is innovative due to the following:

  • It incorporates and proposes a portable and unified electronic portfolio system that reflexively relates the progress and achievements achieved in the teaching and learning process.
  • It develops a system of portable profiles that facilitates the personalization of the experience of learning thanks to interoperability
  • It incorporates innovative educational components such as micro credentials, making use of emerging technologies applied in education such as badges and blockchain to create a credentialing system.
  • Take advantage of program development in non-traditional settings, such as e-learning; virtual education is still perceived with many myths in Latin America, components are proposed to improve and demonstrate the quality of Higher Education.
  • It promotes the use of new technologies in higher education, through the development of open and flexible educational resources, the acquisition of digital skills and learning methods that include not only the teacher but also the student.
  • takes advantage of the potential of learning management systems (LMS) to take them to a higher level, overcoming the perception that they are simple systems that host learning materials and resources, and turning them into tools to generate learning paths and access to content and activities that guide the objective of personalization.
  • Make courses more flexible based on student usage profiles. This proposal does not focus on the development of courses, but rather highlights the need to design e-learning courses based on the needs and preferences of access and interaction of the student and the diagnosis of knowledge and previous knowledge of the students.
  • The project promotes teaching innovation, supporting the transformation of the teaching role as a guide for an autonomous learner capable of creating innovative and personalized learning routes.
  • It incorporates the use and/or development of Artificial Intelligence applications, both to facilitate student access and interaction and to monitor progress.

  • Informe de buenas prácticas y requisitos organizativos para: la implementación del portafolio electrónico unificado, personalización de contenidos educativos, flexibilización curricular, sistema de acreditación unificado y sistemas inteligentes para la gestión universitaria.


  • Sistema de calidad del proyecto e informes de resultados de seguimiento periódico, resultados de ejecución de los piloto, evaluación técnica de resultados y productos y de resultados de aplicación del modelo de calidad en los piloto.


  • Plan estratégico de difusión y de diseminación.
  • Informes de comunicación por medios tradicionales y web 2.0, diseminación para la comprensión, diseminación para la acción y diseminación científica.

Methodological Structure of the Project

Prepare properly to all members of the consortium in all aspects related to the administrative, financial and scientific management of the project.


Promotes the creation of apps and devices to meet special educational needs and diversity.


It develops training actions that contribute to improving educational quality, through content personalization and curricular flexibility.


Persuade those responsible for educational institutions through information and scientific evidence, in the implementation of the components developed in the project.


Guarantee the follow-up and evaluation of the quality of the project in its entirety, including activities and results based on the Quality System.


Promotes the diffusion and dissemination of the results and significant activities of the project, with the highest possible quality and through all the channels at our disposal.


Ensure the administrative, financial and scientific management of the project in a timely manner. It is therefore related to each and every one of the packages of the project.
